Orlando’s Medieval Times Dinner Show Review

Dashing knights? Check. Jousting tournament? Yep. Gallant steeds? You betcha. Medieval Times is a long-standing tradition here in Orlando Florida. And while you may think you’ve landed in the middle of a renaissance fair, this isn’t just a temporary event. This dinner show happens twice a night, every evening since 1983. In fact the Orlando location was the original and has since grown to nine locations in the US.

What Is It?

Medieval Times is housed in an 11th century replica castle in the Kissimmee area of Orlando. (It’s about a 15-20 min. drive from Disney property.)

It’s a family dinner theater show with medieval style tournament games in sword fighting and jousting. Depending on where you sit your section is assigned a certain knight. You will cheer him on to hopefully win the tournament.

It’s definitely family friendly- I saw families and kids of all ages here. There were a lot of adults as well, and it seemed a popular place for birthday celebrations and large groups. They make a special announcement listing anyone celebrating a special event by name, something that kids in particular might get a real kick out of.

Dinner Details

The price for dinner and the show is $63 for adults, $37 for kids (3-12) it includes non-alcoholic drinks. You pay extra for booze and tip for your wait staff at the end of the meal.

Before you go in to the show, you mill around in a waiting area with several bars for ordering drinks, (lots of souvenir cups!)
The food is simple, in keeping with idea of medieval fare, and served with no utensils. So be prepared to dig in! Tomato soup, rotisserie style chicken and sides and cake for dessert.

The Show

But this experience really isn’t about the food, it’s about the show.  They really do know how to entertain you. The knights play to the crowd, the horses are gorgeous and it’s awesome to watch them and the stunts their riders do. There’s a falcon that performs tricks for you, and of course, the jousting. It’s all done with a lot of fun. No real danger is conveyed so kids should enjoy the excitement of the match.

Locals Love Medieval Times

I expected to see mostly tourists at Medieval Times but actually there were quite a lot of locals there with groups or celebrating special occasions. That is a good sign. You see, here in Orlando, there is an unbelievable amount of places to go and things to do.  Locals are spoiled by the amount of choices we have. So the fact that they enjoy going to this long-standing dinner theater shows it’s entertainment value.

You can often find specials on their official website here, or you can also keep an eye out for Groupon which sometimes offers significant savings especially during slower season.

Keep Medieval Times in mind when you’re visiting Orlando and looking for something new to try.

Special thanks to them for hosting us!
